Ferrari Land – Racing Legends & Flying Dreams
PortAventura World | Salou, Spain
Flagship racing-themed attractions anchoring Ferrari Land, combining large-scale media, storytelling, and high-capacity ride systems.

Daren and his team at Mousetrappe were engaged by PortAventura World (owner/operator) and PGAV Destinations (master planning consultant) to design and direct all interior components of the centerpiece attractions for Ferrari Land. Under one roof the client desired two different ride-film attractions: a flying theater taking guests on a journey around the world and featuring Ferrari's GT (road) cars "Flying Dreams", and a higher adrenaline Formula One dome simulator "Racing Legends". Both attractions were to share a common indoor extended queue and pre-show visit with founder Enzo Ferrari (pepper's ghost) in his office, then split into separate queues and secondary pre-shows themed to each ride.
The direction was to not overly "theme" the space as the rest of the land provided plenty of Italian and Ferrari environments, but rather to create dynamic storytelling through a combination of scenic and video projections. For the extended queue we created a massive 35' tall by 90' wide bas relief filled with projection mapping and a 30 minute loop celebrating everything Ferrari. The centerpiece was flanked by projection-mapped Ferrari's - a road car on the flying theater entrance side and an F1 car for the other.
Guests would then move into a themed version of Enzo Ferrari's own office wherein Enzo greeted guests and espoused Ferrari's legendary accomplishments and philosophies. Historical photos and drawings "magically" flew off his desk and out of his file cabinets (show action + pepper's ghost projections). Following this presentation guests (who remained separated in the office) continue into their respective queues.
Racing Legends riders would pass by a mock-up wind tunnel, a hall of legends, and ultimately an F1-style control room for their pre-show, before being split into smaller grounds for safety videos and boarding (similar to "Simpsons" at Universal).
Flying Dreams passengers visited a design studio where they viewed a Ferrari road car and all of its design options from paint colors to upholstery, all of which would transform the car through projection mapping. A dimensional globe appeared to rotate an highlight their upcoming destinations during the ride, and in the pre-show 3 of the classic travel posters suddenly come alive and set up the story and deliver safety information.
Racing Legends is a 5 minute dome simulator built by SimEx with 8-passenger F1 themed ride vehicles and a 60fps 3D CGI ride film created by Mousetrappe, and takes guests to 8 legendary and historic racing circuits where they "test themselves" against iconic Ferrari F1 drivers.
Flying Dreams is a traditional flying theater, built by Brogent, and featuring 11 locations around the world as guests journey from Ferrari's own race circuit in Maranello Italy, through France, Russia, China, the US, Monaco and ultimately arrive at PortAventura. Mousetrappe was the first studio to employ drones for the flight filming, allowing the riders to get closer to the featured Ferrari hero vehicles in each scene.
